Chelsea Manalo, a 23-year-old model from Bulacan, made history on Wednesday when she became the first Black woman to be crowned Miss Universe Philippines.

Manalo, who was born in Meycauayan, Bulacan, on October 14, 1999, took home the coveted crown at the coronation ceremony held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. Her parents are Contessa Manalo, a Filipina, and an African father. Manalo's victory is a significant moment for representation and diversity in the Miss Universe Philippines pageant.
